I think for Memorial Day we should instead honor the living. The veterans who make up a significant percentage of the nation’s homeless. The veterans who suffer from PTSD and all the other ills they bring home. And last but not least, if we should honor the dead, we should acknowledge the fact that veteran suicides are outnumbering combat deaths and this is a problem that needs addressed.
Our nation honors the fallen soldiers, but neglects the still living. “The Department of Veterans Affairs says 18 military veterans commit suicide every day.”
